homework 2-web design

Homework 2:

JPG (JPEG): jpg is for real pictures such as photos you have taken, nature scenes, etc. It stands for Joint Photographic Group. JPG is intended for compressing an image. The color of an image can go up to 24-bit and can be a max of 64k X 64k pixels.

PNG: This is a format to store images. It stands for Portable Network Graphics. This can be used for a 24 bit picture. PNG transfers images to the internet such as graphics or logos.

GIF:This stands for Graphics Interchange Format. It is used for bitmap images. The images can have up to 72 dpi. Its for images with sharp edges and less gradations such as text and cartoons.

BMP: BMP is bitmap. Its used to saving image files in graphic format.
They differ in size. If the photograph has fewer than 256 colors than GIF is the choice but if it contains more than 256 then choose PNG. JPG holds 24 bits. So i think JPG is the largest. I dont think one is better than another because I think each one has its good qualities. JPG is for realistic pictures while PNG and GIF are more for graphics and logos. The PNG is larger than the GIF which might be why it is better for like text and cartoons because it has less than an actual logo or graphic would.
